The Sod-Turning Ceremony of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan/Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (CoMUI/ICOMAA) Student Hostel went down as a truly noteworthy event, marked by the pledging of the very generous sum of a million dollars by the keynote speaker, Dr Philip Orayeli Ozuah. The virtually-held ceremony took place on Monday, 1st of August 2022. It signified the start of the building project aimed at setting up a new hostel for College of Medicine, University of Ibadan students.
According to his faculty profile in the directory of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr Philip O. Ozuah earned his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Southern California, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He completed his Paediatric Internship and Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore, and his Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Southern California School of Medicine.
He is currently the President and CEO of Montefiore Medicine. He has served as Professor and University Chairman of Paediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.
The news of his donation was joyfully received by students and other attendees of the event with the Provost expressing immense gratitude on behalf of the College of Medicine. Many other donations received towards this project prior to the ceremony include a $30,000 donation by the MBBS/BDS Class of 1989, a $12,000 donation from Dr Olajumoke Banjo and her husband, Ayodele Banjo, and an additional $6,000 received from Dr Dolamu and Modupe Sokunbi amongst others.
