For the second time in 12 years, another attack was reported on Tuesday, 24th of December, 2019 at the residence of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, in Otuoke, Bayelsa state. The attack was said to be during the early hours of the morning, around 3 a.m.
It was said that robbers gained entry into his home via boat. The number of casualties as a result of the attack could not be ascertained. The ex-president was however reported to have escaped unhurt, even though the public is beginning to perceive it as an assassination attempt on his life.
Top officials of the nation, including the current president Muhammadu Buhari, amongst others, have sent their heartfelt condolences while expressing deep worry and concern over the state of security in Bayelsa state and the nation at large. The first attack was on April 20, 2007 by militants. The security around the area and its environs have been reportedly beefed up by security agencies and officials.
